Phrases on the subject of cars and driving:

La pédale d’accélération : the accelerator       un permis de conduire : a driving licence       la plage (can also be ‘a beach’) arrière : the back shelf, the parcel shelf       le pneu(matique) : the tyre       le pot d’échappement : the exhaust pipe       prendre un virage : to (turn a) corner.

Un sabot (de Denver) is a wheel clamp. And un papillon (slang – also means ‘butterfly’)/un P.-V. : un procès verbal (a false friend if ever I saw one) is a parking ticket. You have been warned.
